The Anchorage Curling Club will not be scheduling any Learn to Curl Events until further notice due to the continued coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
TRY CURLING (NO EXPERIENCE OR MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED)
The best way to give curling a try is through our Learn to Curl events which are generally in October and January. Check our club calendar for exact dates each season. No prior experience is required and these events are open to the public (club membership is not required). The cost is $25/person. Advance registration through our website is highly encouraged to guarantee a spot, but walk-ins are welcome too if there is space available. Each event is limited to about 16 participants. All curling equipment (brooms, stones, sliders, grippers, and stabilizers) will be provided to attendees and is covered in the event cost.
WHAT TO EXPECT
A learn to curl event takes approximately 2 hours and participants are encouraged to arrive 10 minutes prior to the designated event start time. Volunteer instructors will spend about 20 minutes teaching the history, rules, techniques, and strategy of the game in our warm lounge. Then the group will move out to the ice rink for the remainder of the time to practice throwing stones, sweeping technique, and ultimately play a condensed game.
WHAT TO BRING
Participants must bring a clean pair of soft-soled shoes or tennis shoes. Dress shoes, heels, cleats, and boots with metal buckles will not be allowed on the ice. We will have a wash sink available at the club if further shoe cleaning is necessary prior to going on the ice.
The ice rink area will be approximately 24-38 degrees Fahrenheit. Participants are encouraged to wear warm, flexible clothing. Sweat pants, long-sleeve shirt and/or jacket, hat, and gloves are recommended. Jeans are not recommended as they are not flexible and the rivets can damage the ice.
Feel free to contact us in advance of registration if you have any questions or concerns regarding our Learn to Curl events.
