A bonspiel is a multi-day curling tournament typically held over a party-filled weekend. They normally include a lunch or dinner banquet, at least 3 games of curling, themes, costumes, drawings, prizes, and other party activities. Unless specifically stated otherwise, they are open to all types of teams and all levels of curlers. The Anchorage Curling Club will be hosting the following bonspiels during the 2017-18 season:


Fall Rookie Spiel (27-28 October, 2017)

A fun, multi-day curling event targetted for those new to the game. Register individually or as a team. Open team format (men, women, youth, or mixed) with four curlers per team. October Learn to Curl participants play for free (use discount code provided at the Learn to Curl event). Otherwise, $20/person or $80/team. Game length is four ends or one hour, whichever comes first. Minimum guarantee of three games. Maximum of 16 teams (64 curlers). Registration for this event closes on 23 October 2017 at 11:59pm.


Fall Spiel (17-19 November, 2017)

The theme for this multi-day curling event is 80's on ice. Register individually or as a team. Open team format (men, women, youth, or mixed) with four curlers per team. The cost is $50/person or $200/team. Game length is eight ends. Maximum of 16 teams (64 curlers). Registration for this event closes on 15 November 2017. Winter Spiel (8-9 December, 2017)

Kick start your holidays with Reindeer Games...a perfect excuse to wear that ugly holiday sweater throughout this two day curling event. There will be some wacky rules incorporated each game to really challenge participants. Register individually or as a team. Open team format (men, women, youth, or mixed) with four curlers per team. The cost is $30/person or $120/team. Game length is six ends. Maximum of 8 teams (32 curlers). Each team is guaranteed two games. Registration for this event closes on 6 December 2017 or when 8 teams have signed up, whichever comes first. Each team is asked to bring a dessert and/or appetizer to share on Friday and Saturday. The Bonspiel Committee will be providing food on Saturday and prizes to the winners of the A Bracket and B Bracket. Doubles Spiel (16-18 February, 2018)

The ACC introduces a new event to our bonspiel calendar in honor of the mixed doubles debut at the 2018 Winter Olympics. However, this bonspiel will have an open team format (men, women, youth, or mixed) with two curlers per team. Please register as a team. Individual registrations will be accepted but do not guarantee a spot in the bonspiel. Click here for registration. A refund will be issued, if necessary. The cost is $25/person or $50/team. Game length is six ends or 1.5 hours. Maximum of 24 teams (48 curlers). Each team is guaranteed two games. Registration for this event closes on 13 February 2018 or when 24 teams have signed up, whichever comes first. Local (Anchorage based) teams are asked to bring a dessert and/or appetizer to share on Friday and Saturday. Depending on the number of teams that register, curling may or may not occur on Sunday February 18th. The Bonspiel Committee will be providing prizes to the top finishers. Fur Rondy Spiel (1-4 March, 2018)

This bonspiel is a long standing tradition at the ACC centered around the Fur Rendezvous winter festival held in Anchorage. This is a competitive bonspiel often seeing teams from Anchorage, Fairbanks, the lower 48, and Canada compete over the 4-day event. Please register as a team. Open team format (men, women, youth, or mixed) with four curlers and one sub/alternate per team. Individual registrations will be accepted but do not guarantee a spot in the bonspiel. Click here for registration. A refund will be issued, if necessary. The cost is $50/person or $200/team ($250/team if registering with a sub/alternate). Game length is eight ends or 2 hours. Maximum of 32 teams (128 curlers not including alternates). Each team is guaranteed three games. Registration for this event closes on 26 February 2018 or when 32 teams have signed up, whichever comes first. Please note that games may occur at any time during the 4-day event (ie around the clock curling) depending on the number of teams that register. Local (Anchorage based) teams are asked to bring a dessert and/or appetizer to share on Thursday and Friday. The Bonspiel Committee will be providing cash prizes to the top four teams. Spring Rookie Spiel (17-18 March, 2018)

A fun, multi-day curling event targetted for those new to the game. Register individually or as a team. Open team format (men, women, youth, or mixed) with four curlers per team. Request an experienced skip if your team is short on curlers or do not have experience calling the game. Click here for registration. January and February Learn to Curl participants play for free (use discount code provided at event or sent to you by e-mail). Otherwise, $25/person or $100/team. Game length is four ends or 1.5 hours, whichever comes first. Minimum guarantee of two games. Maximum of 16 teams (64 curlers). Registration for this event closes on 9 March 2018 or when 16 teams have signed up, whichever comes first. The Bonspiel Committee will be providing prizes to the winners of the A Bracket and B Bracket.


Spring Spiel (5-8 April, 2018)

This is a competitive event that concludes the "trifecta" for teams that compete in three consecutive weeks of bonspiels (Whitehorse International, Fairbanks International, and Anchorage Spring) at the end of the curling season. The theme for this multi-day event is Luau. Please register as a team. Open team format (men, women, youth, or mixed) with four curlers and one sub/alternate per team. Individual registrations will be accepted but do not guarantee a spot in the bonspiel. Click here for registration. A refund will be issued, if necessary. The cost is $50/person or $200/team ($250/team if registering with a sub/alternate). Game length is eight ends or 2 hours. Maximum of 32 teams (128 curlers not including alternates).
